Through the State of Michigan's new Community College Guarantee program, Monroe County residents who graduated from high school in 2023 and 2024 may be eligible for free tuition and fees at MCCC.
In addition to free tuition and fees, students who qualify for a Federal Pell Grant can receive a $1,000 Michigan Achievement Bonus award.
Residents who reside outside of Monroe County are also eligible to receive the Community College Guarantee to attend MCCC; however, it will cover only up to the cost of in-district tuition.
The Community College Guarantee Program was funded in the state's Fiscal Year 2025 budget and is part of the Michigan Achievement Scholarship program.
Eligibility
To be eligible, students must:
- Be a Michigan resident since July 1 of the previous calendar year. For dependent students, parent(s) must also meet this requirement.
- Complete the Free Application for Financial Aid (FAFSA)
- Have graduated from high school or earned a high school graduation equivalency certificate in 2023 or 2024
- Enroll full time at MCCC within 15 months of the date of their high school graduation.
- Meet MCCC's Satisfactory Academic Progress policy.
Additional eligibility requirements may apply. Students are not eligible if they are in default on a federal student loan.
The Michigan Achievement Scholarship Program also provides awards for students who attend four-year institutions. Students can receive the Michigan Achievement Scholarship for five consecutive years total with no more than three years at a Michigan community college like MCCC.
